This blog is my learning log for a BA (Hons) Creative Arts. Here I will record:

  • my thoughts on the work I produce for each project
  • my ideas and observations as I work through the course
  • my reflections on the reading I do and the research I conduct
  • my tutors’ reports on assignments and my reactions to these
How I got here…. I’m 43 and married, cats not kids! I’m a qualified accountant, but that happened by default really (and 4 years of gruelling study). I have a BSc Hons in Zoology from Liverpool University (1995). Growing up, I always wanted to be either a vet or an artist, and completed the first year of A-level Art alongside Chemistry, Biology and Maths. The workload of 4 A-levels was unmanageable so I had to decide where to focus my efforts and science won out.
So there has always been the ‘what if’ feeling about Art hovering about inside me. I’ve always been doing something creative with my free time; drawing, painting, textiles (embroidery, quilting, knitting), paper-cutting. Also a lot of music; I’m in two choirs and regularly go to live gigs.
I recently went to a screen-printing workshop with a friend and was struck by how much I miss being taught something new. A couple of friends have recently started formal art study, one of them has just joined oca and he inspired me to do the same. I want to see what I can do and I’d like to achieve another degree, something to work towards and focus on that develops me in terms of experience, ability, interactions with new people, opinions and outlooks.
So here I go – Drawing 1 : Drawing Skills! I’m excited and daunted!
